Joint ethical and environmental statements released NUS and NUS Services have now agreed upon and released their joint statements on the environment and ethics.
These statements set out the principles of how the organisations will conduct their business, it gives the membership confidence and clear expectations of what their national organisations are doing, and gives clear leadership to the student movement on NUS and NUS Services’ roles.
"With the release of NUS' Stategic Plan 2008-10 last year, we committed ourselves to be more open and transparent with the membership on issues such as climate change and ethical judgements - this is exactly what these policies are about,” said Dave Lewis, NUS National Treasurer and NUS Services Company Chair.
"Both NUS and NUS Services are absolutely committed to this agenda, I fully recognise that students' unions and NUS Services have led the student movement in this area, but now NUS is finally taking decisive action."
These are evolving documents that will shape decision-making, internal policies and the culture of both organisations. The statements will be communicated to suppliers, partners and companies who NUS and NUS Services are working with, ensuring there is clarity over our business practices and vision.
Catherine Dishington, NUS Services Ethical and Environmental Coordinator, said: "Greening and screening the supply chain is central to the sustainable and ethical business behaviour that our customers want to see in practice, NUS Services has taken a proactive action in this area for a number of years and it’s a great achievement to formalise our values, together with the NUS in these joint statements."
NUS and NUS Services welcome comment and feedback on the ongoing development and implementation of the statements.
